The Arizona Department of Education is responsible for the administration and related issues of the public schools in the State. The offices of the Arizona Department of Education are located at 1535 West Jefferson Street in Phoenix. The acting administrator of the Arizona Department of Education is the Superintendent. As of 2010, this office was filled by Tom Horne. The Executive Director of the Arizona State Board of Education is Vince Yanez.

The Arizona Department of Education ensures that the schools throughout the State hold to the established standards for performance, employ certified teachers, and are accountable to the parents and students whom they serve. In regard to standards for academic performance, the Arizona Department of Education sets categories for educational levels according to ten specified categories: math, reading proficiency, writing proficiency, scientific topics, social studies, fine arts, health, technology, non-English languages, and employable skill sets.
